Kellyanne Conway faces questioning from January 6 committee

Former White House aide Kellyanne Conway is facing questioning from the House select committee investigating the riot at the US Capitol on January 6, NBC News reports.

Ms Conway ran former president Donald Trump’s first presidential campaign in 2016 and then served as one of his top advisers in his administration. Ms Conway reportedly testified in person.

She also reportedly did not respond to questions from a reporter for ABC News when she entered a conference room for her questioning.

Emmet Flood, who is also reportedly representing former vice president Mike Pence, reportedly accompanied Ms Conway. Ms Conway is just the latest figure from the Trump administration to testify before the select committee.

The testimony comes as the select committee is wrapping up its work. Its mandate ends at the end of the current Congress and with Republicans taking control of the House of Representatives in January, it will likely cease to have salience.

In addition, four of the select committee members will no longer be in Congress next year. Representative Liz Cheney lost her Republican primary for Wyoming’s at-large district earlier this year. Representatives Adam Kinzinger of Illinois and Stephanie Murphy of Florida opted not to run for re-election. Then earlier this month, Representative Elaine Luria of Virginia lost her re-election race to Republican Jen Kiggans.
