In a recent episode of her podcast, The Morning After, Kelly Stafford, wife of NFL quarterback Matthew Stafford, opened up about the challenges she faced during the 2022 Super Bowl run. According to Kelly, the stress and nerves surrounding the games took a toll on her physical and emotional well-being, causing her weight to drop to a mere 90 pounds.
Recalling the Super Bowl year, Kelly expressed her feelings of misery, stating, 'Every game, I couldn't hold anything down. I was miserable. I think I weighed 90 lbs.' Despite the Los Angeles Rams' eventual victory over the Cincinnati Bengals with a score of 23-20, Kelly reflects on that time with mixed emotions.
The transition to life on the sidelines in L.A. was not without its difficulties for Kelly. Following Matthew's trade from the Detroit Lions to the Rams in January, the Stafford family had to adjust to a new city and a new team. Matthew, having spent 12 seasons in Detroit, faced the challenge of connecting with his younger teammates in Los Angeles, as Kelly revealed last year.
Kelly shared during her podcast that her 35-year-old husband struggled to relate to the rookies on the team and the changing dynamics in the locker room. In an effort to bridge the gap, Matthew went to great lengths to familiarize himself with his teammates by having a book printed with their names and faces. He wanted to establish a connection beyond the formalities, emphasizing the importance of chemistry on the field.
However, Kelly later expressed regret for her candidness in discussing the challenges faced by Matthew, admitting it was 'probably the worst thing I've done when it comes to [Matthew].' She clarified that her comments about the difficulty of relating to someone ten years younger were relatable but acknowledged that she was not spending every day in an NFL locker room, unlike her husband.
It's evident that the Super Bowl year and the subsequent transition to a new team presented unique challenges for both Matthew and Kelly Stafford. Adapting to a new city, navigating changing dynamics, and managing the pressure of a Super Bowl run can take a toll on anyone involved. Nevertheless, the Stafford family continues to navigate through these experiences with resilience and a commitment to supporting each other.
