Kelly Ripa has opened up about how her children feel about her interacting with their Instagram posts.
In a recent interview with E! News, the Live with Kelly and Mark co-host revealed that she and her husband, Mark Consuelo’s three children – Lola, 23, Michael, 27, and Joaquin, 21 – have temporarily blocked her from their social media accounts.
“Usually, if I comment on one of the two of their social media posts, I will get a temporary blocking,” Ripa told the outlet. “Then, the ban gets lifted and I’m reinstated. But I’m like, ‘Why can’t you guys be like the other kids on social media? They happily allow their parents in there.’”
She also expressed interest in being in her children’s TikToks as she added, “Lisa Rinna’s girls do TikTok videos with her.”
“And not that I want to be in a TikTok, but can I be on your TikTok?”
This isn’t the first time Ripa has talked about her children curating their social media feeds to avoid their parents showing up. “I’m pretty sure they’ve blocked us,” the mother-of-three told E! News back in April 2023.
“When you have a news feed and it says ‘Suggest more or suggest this, like this or block this channel,’ I’m certain they have blocked any channel with any mention of our names. Just like they block us on social media. They block us any way they can.”
Their daughter, Lola, has also touched on her decision to block her parents when speaking to People alongside her mother back in 2020. “That’s disgusting,” she said about some of their social media posts at the time. “I block that out of my mind. I forgot that you even did that. I don’t even know if I follow you on Instagram still! I’m kidding, I would never.”
Ripa explained at the time this could’ve been an act of “self-preservation” as both she and Conseulos had been open about the more intimate details of their relationship before, including “ludicrous” sex rituals via FaceTime on one episode of the Let’s Talk off Camera with Kelly Ripa podcast.
“We had, can I tell you something, we had sexual rituals that were so ludicrous, over FaceTime,” she explained in a March 2023 episode about staying connected to Conseulos while they were separated for about 10 months in 2020 for work.
The talk show host also joked about being lucky if her children interact with her at all because they seem to never know what she and their father are up to. “They’re in a whole ‘nother subculture,” she said. “They’re like, ‘What do you mean? What are you guys doing?’ They have no idea.”
“They don’t really pay attention to what we’re doing,” Ripa added. “They’re just happy that mom and dad are finding ways to pass the time since they’ve left the house.”
Ripa and Conseulos first met when he auditioned for a role on All My Children to play Ripa’s love interest in 1995. They ended up making their debut as a couple in 1996 before they eloped a few months later in Las Vegas, Nevada.
