Kelly Clarkson may have been brought up in Texas, but the Kelly Clarkson Show host now calls the Big Apple home – and is allowing her interiors to reflect the big city energy.
The singer and TV personality recently unveiled a New York City collection with Wayfair, and the sleek, modern pieces are made to instantly elevate even the smallest of big city apartments.
In fact, Clarkson recently shared some of her favorite parts of her apartment in a clip shared to her Instagram page, and we were instantly struck by the gallery wall. Adorned with a mix of mirrors, photographs, and artwork, the wall is highly personal yet refined.
'This gallery wall makes me so happy,' Clarkson states in the video. She suggests 'incorporating your family into the wall, or favorite places or vacation spots or things in your life that you love.' Safe to say, we've sourced some gallery wall ideas from her space.
Personalizing a gallery wall is one of the best ways to make it stand out. According to experts, there is truly no right or wrong way to curate.
'If it’s your first gallery wall, don’t buy what you think you’re ‘supposed’ to buy or copy those on social media - buy what you love or what makes you happy,' says Nicole Lambert, Manager at Custtom. 'This will mean so much more and will be much more authentic. If you prefer family photos - go for a collage of all your treasured memories. But if you prefer a mix of photographs and art, there are plenty of places to buy art affordably. You could even get something designed by someone local or an artist online who can create something unique and personal to you. This will be a more affordable way to add personality and create a great gallery wall. It’s best not to focus too much on following trends too, as these change quickly and it could be expensive trying to keep up with the latest trends.'
Decorating with mirrors, as Clarkson has done, is a fantastic way to maintain visual interest.
'Gallery walls are not only be for displaying beautiful family photos and memories, but also a way to create a statement in your home,' Lambert says. 'Try and use a variety of media types as possible to create a nice eye-catching mix and make it unique. This will draw the eye to different parts and create something more interesting to look at. Different media types include different sized framed and unframed canvases, clocks, framed mounted photographs, drawings or digital prints, embroidery, collages, wooden photos or metal prints. Mirrors are another way to create a quirky, classic, non-traditional gallery wall. Any size mirror will work, depending on the scale of your wall and what else you have hung. You could even try a mirror with an interesting shape or frame, or even one without a frame. You could make this the focal point of the gallery wall and hang the rest of your art around it to create a more unique wall.'
However, Lambert says that sticking to a general theme or having a thread tying all the works together can make it feel connected to the rest of the space.
'If you want to transform your living space with an instagram-worthy gallery wall, any imagery you choose (whether it’s a selection of family photos or pieces of artwork), must work with the furniture and other design elements in the room,' she explains. 'If you have a vintage look in the room, then you should opt for a vintage looking art piece or vintage style family photo, as a mismatch can ruin the overall ambiance of the space.'
