Kellie Harrington has paid tribute to Cliona D'Arcy after the young star took home gold at the World Youth Championship.
The Galway woman had cruised into the final with a 5-0 win over Poland's Weronika Maja Bochen. The victory caps off a remarkable season for D'Arcy, who just last April took home gold at the European Youth Championship.
The Gort native dominated her opponent Kirti Kirti of India in a convincing performance in the gold medal bout. By the end of the three rounds, D'Arcy was awarded a unanimous decision victory with all judges giving her the win in a lopsided contest.

Immediately after the contest, Olympic, European and World Gold medalist Kellie Harrington took to Instagram to shower the young star with praise.
"@Clionadarcy WORLD CHAMPION Well Done Girl" is how Harrington captioned the post.
The win represents another fabulous achievement for the female boxers of Ireland. At the European Championship last month, Ireland took home three gold medals, two silvers and two bronze in a record haul for the team.
Harrington won gold at that event along with Amy Broadhurst and Aoife O'Rourke, who both have had marvelous seasons and have each won gold at the World and European Championships.
Dundalk woman Broadhurst also took home gold at the Commonwealth Games during the summer.
On the professional side of things Katie Taylor has continued to fly the Irish flag with distinction. The Bray bomber is 2-0 in 2022, picking up big wins over Amanda Serrano and Karen Elizabeth Carabajal, with a potential Croke Park showdown with Serrano on the horizon in 2023.
