A five-year-old British boy has died after an accident in a swimming pool while on holiday in Egypt.
Kelan Logan-Derench, five, of Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham, was in Egypt with his mum Ciara, his older sister Cienna and his grandmother when the tragedy occurred.
Family friend Serena Whitehead said the New Hall Primary School pupil was a “cheeky, mischievous, happy little boy”.
A GoFundMe she set up to pay for a funeral has so far raised more than £16,000.
She said the family was “absolutely broken” by what has happened.
Ms Whitehead said: “Five-year-old Kelan Logan-Derench from Sutton Coldfield went on his first holiday abroad to Egypt on 24/11/2023 with his mum, elder sister and nan.
“Devastatingly only one day later Kelan had a tragic accident and fell into the swimming pool and heartbreakingly nothing could be done to save him and he sadly lost his life.
“Kelan was a cheeky, mischievous, happy little boy, he was a younger brother to Cienna and was about to become a big brother himself in February 2024.
“Kelan’s whole family are absolutely broken and we can only imagine the pain they are going through, the least we can do as friends of the family and as a community is to help them by offering some financial support so that they can bring Kelan home and give him the funeral he deserves.”
In a statement, an FCDO spokesman said: “We are supporting the family of a British child who died in Egypt.”
