Outgoing Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has arrived in London to commence the formal process of stepping down and facilitating the transition to the newly elected Prime Minister, Keir Starmer.
A plane carrying Sunak touched down at the RAF Northolt airbase in west London at approximately 7 a.m. local time (2 a.m. ET), as captured in video footage broadcasted by British media outlets.
Following his arrival, Sunak proceeded to the Conservative party headquarters in London, where he is anticipated to address party members and staff.
It is scheduled that Sunak will deliver a statement at Downing Street around 10.30 a.m. local time (5.30 a.m. ET) before heading to Buckingham Palace to formally resign from his position to King Charles, as outlined in a preliminary timeline provided by the Prime Minister’s office.
Subsequently, Labour Party leader Keir Starmer is set to have an audience with the King, who will extend the official invitation for him to form a new government.
Starmer will then proceed to Downing Street and address the nation as the new Prime Minister at approximately 12.20 p.m. local time (7.20 a.m. ET).
