Keir Starmer pledges to create publicly-owned energy company to help cut bills

Keir Starmer has vowed to create a state-owned energy company to help lower fuel bills if his party wins power at the next General Election.

The Labour leader said a new enterprise, Great British Energy, would boost the supply of renewable power by harnessing the country's sun, wind and waves.

He told Labour 's conference in Liverpool: "We will set up Great British Energy within the first year of a Labour government.
