Keir Stamer says the House of Lords is ‘not capable of being defended’

Speaking in a live address from Leeds on Monday morning, SIr Keir Starmer said that the House of Lords was 'not capable of being defended.'

As he set out his plans for constitutional reform, he clarified that revisions to the second chamber should be seen within a wider context of devolving power away from Westminster to local communities.

Starmer took a tough line on hereditary peers, saying that the 'sooner hereditary peers are abolished the better.'
