'Keep windows and doors' closed warning after blaze erupts at waste facility

RESIDENTS in Airdrie are being urged to keep their doors and windows closed after a fire erupted at a waste facility site.

Police have said emergency crews raced to a landfill site on Meikle Drumgray Road in the town on Sunday, August 18, after being alerted to the incident.

The force was called to the blaze at around 7.55pm.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) also confirmed it was in attendance, however, they have since left the scene.

Due to the fire, residents in the area have been issued a warning to keep all windows and doors closed.

Meanwhile, this morning, the SFRS has said it is heading back to the scene to check it over.

Currently, it is unclear if anyone has been injured during the incident.
