Katy Perry is asking for nearly $5 million in damages from the former owner of her $15 million Montecito mansion as a long-running legal fight over the property continues. According to a court filing dated Nov. 21 and obtained by PEOPLE, the singer is requesting a total of $4,718,698.95 from entrepreneur Carl Westcott.
The filing states that Katy Perry is “entitled to $3,525,000 in rental value,” which she claims was lost because of the dispute. She is also seeking “$1,343,401.95 for necessary repairs,” bringing the total request to $4,868,401.95. After applying an offset of $149,703 for losses claimed by Westcott, the amount Perry is now pursuing sits just under $4.72 million.
Westcott’s legal team argues that Perry still owes him the remaining $6 million of the agreed $15 million purchase price, saying she has only paid $9 million so far. After factoring in repair costs, his attorneys calculate their claim at $5,740,418.18.

These financial demands follow Perry’s testimony in August, delivered via Zoom, in a Los Angeles courtroom. She was questioned about her 2020 purchase of the historic California estate, which she and then-partner Orlando Bloom bought from Westcott in July of that year.
The legal dispute began shortly after the sale. Westcott, who had entered into the contract in 2020, later sought to undo it, arguing that he “lacked capacity” to proceed with the transaction. He filed a lawsuit that same August against Perry’s business manager, Bernie Gudvi, claiming he had been unable to fully understand the agreement due to health issues and medication.
The mansion, built in the 1930s and located in the Santa Barbara area, became the center of a years-long battle as both sides claimed financial harm. Perry maintained that she fulfilled her obligations under the sale and sought full ownership of the home. In May 2024, she prevailed in a trial focused on liability, securing ownership of the property, according to the Wall Street Journal.

With the issue of ownership settled, the dispute has now shifted to financial compensation. Perry’s legal team argues that the unresolved conflict prevented her from renting the property and required extensive repairs. Westcott’s attorneys contend that Perry has not fulfilled the full payment terms and that the disputed damages should be offset against what they say she still owes.
As the case moves forward, both sides continue to hold firm to their claims, leaving the final financial outcome in the hands of the court.
