Katie Waissel says PTSD therapy helped her to perform again for the first time in a decade

Former X Factor star Katie Waissel revealed undergoing PTSD therapy helped her to perform again for the first time in 10 years.

The singer, 36, said she wouldn't have found the 'strength or courage' to perform without the help of therapy.

She explained to GB News : "I am a classically trained pianist. I started writing songs when I was 14 years old. Recently I found the courage through PTSD therapy to get a piano for my home again, because it's been such a long time."

Katie even started writing new music, including a son called Believe, which was inspired by her four-year-old son Hudson.

"I’ve not performed in a decade. Thank goodness for PTSD therapy, because if it weren't for that, I don't think I could have ever found the strength or courage to do that," she said.

"It's taken a lot. I hope it may be an inspiration to anyone that feels like they can't get over a hurdle.

"If you absolutely allow yourself to put in work from a mental health standpoint you can overcome anything."

The star had suffered a heart attack around a year ago and previously admitted to feeling like she was 'falling apart' following the incident.

She shared updates on her hospital trips with followers on social media but the heart attack worsened her PTSD.

When she first shared the news of her hospital dash, Katie took to social media to thank the NHS and the ambulances for their help.

She was told that there would be a wait for the ambulance but it showed up at her door within minutes.

"The entire team at Watford were / are beyond impeccable, and I am so grateful for your continued help!!," she said at the time.

Earlier this year, Katie opened up about being a victim of cruel online trolling while on X Factor in 2010.

She questioned how she had the strength to keep her fight going, explaining that laws needed to be changed.

Speaking about her experience on the show she said: "I was numb emotionally and petrified."

Katie revealed it wasn't her choice to go on the show and if she could erase time on it, she would, adding she's not the only contestant who feels that way.
