Katie Taylor v Amanda Serrano expected to be sold out with limited tickets left

Katie Taylor is expecting a very exciting fight for fans when she goes to war with Amanda Serrano this weekend.

Their showdown on Saturday is on course to be a sell-out, with over 20,000 tickets expected to be sold by the time they get in the ring.

Some 4,000 of those have been purchased online from Irish fight fans, with a large number also being bought by people in the UK.

And Taylor knows that she will have to go into the trenches to have her hand raised at Madison Square Garden.

She said on Thursday: "I think stylistically it is going to be a very, very exciting fight. I think the winner is going to have to show a lot of heart, a lot of grit and a lot of skill - it's going to be a combination of all those things. I think you're just going to see great boxing on Saturday night."

Serrano is also predicting a boxing classic when she takes to the ring just a short journey away from her home in Brooklyn.

She added: "You're definitely going to see great talent out there with two of the best going at it. What you're going to see is heart, glory, lots of punches and you're going to just see a great night of boxing - not just female boxing. It's going to be a great night of boxing."

Taylor admits it was a blessing in disguise that the fight fell through when they were originally scheduled to clash two years ago and says it is brilliant that it is taking place when both fighters are in their prime.

She explained: "It would have been an awful shame if the fight didn't happen. I was hoping it wasn't going to be one of those Floyd Mayweather v Manny Pacquiao type of fights where it happens years and years later.

"It's great that it's actually happening when both of us are in our prime.

"We're also making a lot more money now than we would have made a couple of years ago. The fight has grown over these last few years . This is just a history-making fight now."

The fight was originally scheduled to take place almost exactly two years ago on May 2 but fell through like many sporting events at that time due to the onset of the Covid pandemic.

Promoter Eddie Hearn then tried to make the fight as part of his Fight Camp series, which took place at his home in Brentwood, Essex.

And Taylor admits that would have been a massive mistake when they see how big the bout is now.

She added: "I think initially we were going to fight in Eddie Hearn's back garden with no crowd during Covid. I think Madison Square Garden's main arena packed is a bit better."

Both fighters will earn seven-figure sums from Saturday's bout win, lose or draw, but Serrano's promoter Jake Paul would like to see the pair take home even more money if they meet in a rematch.

He commented: "If this happens again or one like it, we're going to have to get these ladies even more of a payday because I've never seen this amount of media at any fight.

"I'm talking eight figures and they deserve it."
