Katie Taylor urged to only settle for Amanda Serrano rematch at Croke Park for next fight by Carl Frampton

Katie Taylor has been urged to only settle for a rematch with Amanda Serrano at Croke Park for her next fight by Carl Frampton.

The Bray boxer took her professional record to 21-0 last weekend as she retained her world lightweight titles against Serrano at Madison Square Garden.

But Taylor has never fought as a professional on Irish soil and Croke Park is among the venues being considered for her next fight later this year.

Frampton believes the only thing left for Taylor to do in boxing is to headline a massive homecoming event in Dublin.

The former two-weight champion wrote in his Sunday Life column: "Katie has done everything she can in the sport. There is nothing left for her to achieve now and I’m sure she has money in the bank. If I were her, the only thing that would appeal to me now is a Croke Park rematch with Serrano. I think that’s really achievable as they would put at least 60,000 in there, but if Croke Park is out of the equation, what else does she need to do as she’s done everything at this stage?"

Eddie Hearn, Taylor's promoter, said that it would be "a shame" if she didn't get the chance to fight in Dublin as a professional.

But having initially called for the fight to go ahead at GAA Headquarters, Hearn later pointed to the difficulties in making that happen this year.

Croke Park chief Peter McKenna has backed the call but there are obstacles to the venue hosting the fight, including security and insurance issues and the willingness of DAZN to move away from the US in terms of PPV box office potential.

Minister of State for Sport Jack Chambers insisted earlier this week that his "door is open" to help Taylor's bid to stage the bout at Croke Park.

“I want to congratulate Katie for another phenomenal success at the weekend," said Chambers.

"She’s one of our best athletes and a leading light in women’s sport.

"We absolutely support her and hope she can fight in Ireland.

"Obviously there are a number of factors dependent on that happening, insurance being one.

"Certainly my door will be open and I’m willing to engage in trying to make that happen.

"I think it would be phenomenal to see Katie fight in Ireland and in Croke Park if possible. Irish people want to see that happen."

He added: “There are the broader complications as we know that have affected the hosting of fights over the past six years.

"But if it is possible, and there are other specialists who will obviously have input into that, but I would love the Irish public to be able to see Katie fight at home.

"We’ve all followed her story over the years and she’s still at the pinnacle of success and it would be great to see her fight here."
