Katie Taylor's rematch with Amanda Serrano reportedly set for Croke Park in October as talks begin

Talks have reportedly begun in respect of Croke Park hosting Katie Taylor's rematch with Amanda Serrano in October.

The Irish Independent state that plans are already underway to schedule what would be one of the biggest events in Irish sporting history.

This is because rather than the usual matchday capacity of 82,300, it's believed a boxing bout would allow for up to 90,000 people to attend.

Taylor’s manager Brian Peters has already flown home from New York and is at the forefront of talks between her camp and GAA brass.

The biggest potential stumbling block will be convincing streaming giant DAZN to get behind Ireland as a location given it would inconvenience their core American market.

The hope would be that there's now sufficient interest in both fighters stateside after Sunday morning's thriller that American fans would still engage with it.

From a local angle, The Independent say that RTE have also expressed an interest in broadcasting the giant bout.

Olympic gold medalist Taylor has consistently spoken about how she would love to box professionally at home.

Up until recently, that has not been feasible as according to The Independent her turning pro coincided with major boxing events in Ireland becoming unworkable due to excessive insurance costs in the aftermath of the Regency hotel shooting where David Byrne was killed at a pre-fight weigh-in.

However, the roadway for a homecoming bout for Taylor has seemingly cleared over the last few weeks with sanctions having been placed on mobster Daniel Kinahan and his influence over boxing both at home and abroad severely lessened.

Immediately after her grueling victory in New York, Taylor made it abundantly clear that a rematch in Croke Park is far and away her number one preference for her next fight.

At her post-fight presser she said: "We all want to see the best vs the best. Yeah, absolutely, a rematch would be absolutely phenomenal.

"If it was in Dublin, we could sell out Croke Park, if you think the atmosphere was special here tonight, imagine the rematch in front of 80,000 people in Croke Park. Absolutely amazing."
