Katie Taylor's planned homecoming fight in 3Arena postponed after opponent injury

Katie Taylor's planned homecoming fight in Dublin this May has been deferred.

The Bray boxer was due to fight for the first time professionally on home shores this summer, with the bout originally being lined up for Croke Park before a proposed switch to the 3Arena due to cost issues. However, after an injury suffered by opponent Amanda Serrano, the fight will not take place.

Serrano is understood to have suffered the injury in training, forcing her to pull out of the scheduled bout with the undisputed lightweight champion over fears that it will not heal in time. In a statement released this afternoon, Taylor's promoter Matchroom said: "Due to an injury sustained by Amanda Serrano, Matchroom Boxing and Most Valuable Promotions regret to announce that the Taylor-Serrano II bout on 20 May in Dublin will not go ahead as planned.

"The teams are in discussions about finding a revised date for the bout." It remains unclear if Taylor will still fight on the date in the Dublin venue against a new opponent, with possible names she could face being Chantelle Cameron, Natasha Jonas (who she defeated in 2021), Estelle Mossely and Mikaela Mayer, who recently stated she would step in to fight the undisputed lightweight champion if something happened to the Serrano fight.

This could lead to a a Croke Park showdown with Serrano in into the autumn.
