Katie Taylor's Croke Park dream takes major step towards becoming reality after Eddie Hearn admission

Katie Taylor's dream of packing out Croke Park in a homecoming fight for the ages has taken a significant step towards becoming a reality.

This is because her promoter Eddie Hearn revealed in an Instagram Live Q & A session that Matchroom representatives have already spoken to Croke Park officials about the logistics of holding a mega boxing event at GAA headquarters.

He acknowledged: "We'd like to (hold it in Croke Park). We're speaking to a number of opponents.

"We'd love to do the Serrano rematch.

"A few of the guys here went over to speak to Croke Park. We shall see."

While who will be lining up across from her remains to be seen, the soundings suggest that her next fight will take place there as opposed to yet another bout in America or the UK.

Taylor has never fought in Ireland as a professional and with time ticking as her 36th birthday approaches (July 2nd), there is clear impetus on the part of her and her camp to ensure it happens sooner rather than later.

In true promoter fashion, Hearn has made sure to keep his options open when discussing potential opponents even though a rematch with Amanda Serrano would seem the standout option since they have both increased their marketability on the back of their 10-round war.

He has also talked up the prospect of a crossover bout versus either Cris Cyborg or Holly Holm.

Taylor meanwhile has been more definitive in her comments to the media that she would prefer a Serrano rematch over all other comers.

Both Holm and Cyborg are also major stars but predominantly in the world of MMA although Holm in particular boasts Hall of Fame credentials from her boxing career with her only switching codes due to the relatively meager money available at the time in women's boxing.

Elsewhere in the online discussion, Hearn also reaffirmed his belief that the Bray icon could sell out Croker regardless of who she is fighting.

While its capacity on regular GAA matchdays is 82,300, it is believed that a fight night could accommodate up to 90,000 which would make it one of the biggest events in Irish sporting history.
