Katie Taylor reiterates desire to fight Amanda Serrano at Croke Park

Katie Taylor has reiterated her desire to fight Amanda Serrano in a rematch at Croke Park later this year.

The Bray Bombor defeated Serrano via split decision in a fight of the year contender at Madison Square Garden last weekend and was in Las Vegas on Saturday to watch Dmitry Bivol record a shock win over Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez.

Taylor believes a Dublin bout is the only thing that could top her win over Serrano and is confident that the fight would be easy to sell.

She told DAZN: “A rematch would be brilliant. I’m up for any challenge, I want to fight the best out there.

“I would absolutely love to fight in Ireland. A big fight in Croke Park with 80,000 people. That would probably be the only thing that could top what happened last week.

“Imagine filling 80,000 seats that would be very, very special. It would be easy to sell as well I think.”

On the MSG fight, Taylor added: “It is going to be in for Fight of the Year as well. It was just an amazing night for the sport.”

Just one week on from the history-making fight in New York, the majority of Taylor's facial injuries suffered in the bout appeared to have cleared up.

The undisputed lightweight champion bled heavily from a cut above her eye during the ten-round contest.

Taylor was also badly bruised after the bout, with Hearn having to wipe blood from the left side of her face at one stage during the post-fight press conference.

Meanwhile, Serrano, who was originally humble in defeat, has now claimed that she did not lose the fight.

She tweeted on Saturday night: "One week later…Had a chance to reflect on the fight against Katie. It was very close, but I did not lose. That I am certain of. Next time I will leave no doubt. Can’t Wait!

Serrano later called for the rematch to take place on the same card as a second bout between Canelo and Bivol.

Croke Park chief Peter McKenna has backed the call for the rematch to take place at GAA Headquarters, as have local residents and Minister of State for Sport Jack Chambers.

But Eddie Hearn has indicated that the fight could also take place in the Middle East or at Madison Square Garden again.

2012 Olympic champion Taylor has never fought in Ireland as a professional and time is running out for it to happen.

No major professional boxing event has taken place in Dublin since David Byrne was shot dead at a boxing weigh-in at the Regency Hotel in 2016 when Daniel Kinahan was believed to be the main target.

US sanctions recently imposed on the mob boss have seen senior boxing figures distance themselves from him and Kinahan's exclusion from the sport could help a Dublin fight for Taylor to finally come to fruition.
