Katie Taylor and Eddie Hearn hint at Croke Park fight after victory in London

Katie Taylor and Eddie Hearn had Croke Park on their minds after the Irish star defeated Karen Elizabeth Carabajal at Wembley Arena on Saturday evening.

Taylor dominated from start to finish and was awarded a landslide win on all three of the judges’ scorecards. Carabajal was a game opponent however, ‘The Bray Bomber’ was too sharp, too clever, and cruised to victory.

After the fight, both Taylor and promoter Eddie Hearn stated their desire for Katie’s next fight to be a homecoming event in Ireland. “Six years ago, we were here and people laughed at us," said Hearn.

"Katie didn’t think we’d get the opportunity. It’s okay to jump on now, women’s boxing is great now and everyone wants to do it, but for almost thirty years Katie Taylor has been threading paths for others.

“She’s an icon of the sport of boxing. It’s time to return to Ireland now, whoever it is, wherever it is, Ireland has to be next for Katie Taylor.

“She deserves it more than anyone, she’s boxed all over the world, the Irish fans are incredible and they travel everywhere. It’s time to give Ireland a sporting event they will never forget, and that’s the return of their hero Katie Taylor."

Taylor echoed her promoter’s thoughts. Regardless of the opponent, Taylor wants the fight to take place at GAA HQ. “Absolutely we want to fight at Croke Park,” said Taylor.

"80,000 people, that will be the biggest event in women’s boxing history.
