Katie Robinson explains how England Lionesses competition is raising her own standards

Katie Robinson believes she is already making strides as a player in only her second international camp after an excellent display in England's 2-1 win over Italy.

The Lionesses made it two wins from two in the Arnold Clark Cup, with Rachel Daly scoring twice after Italy had threatened their unbeaten run when Sofia Cantore levelled. Robinson, who came into the side of one of nine changes by manager Sarina Wiegman, produced a superb performance and set-up Daly's opener with a curling cross.

The Brighton youngster, 20, only made her international debut at the back of 2022, called up for the first time to the senior squad for a double-header against Japan and Norway. But this was the forward's first time starting for the Lionesses and she didn't disappoint, producing an exciting performance to help England to a second straight win, leaving them top of the group.

"We ground out the win in the end," Robinson said. "We were dominant but didn't take all our chances, so we're happy with the win. Obviously, we've never played with each other (her and Rachel Daly) before, so it's new but it felt natural. We are really confident with two wins, we can't not be.

"It's only my second camp with the team, so I'm just trying to learn as much as possible and integrate myself as well within the squad. Training here is of such a high quality

"But it makes me raise my own standards. So, hopefully I can continue to bring something to the team as well when I'm on the pitch."

Robinson popped up on both flanks during the first half and her willingness to run at the opposition defence never wavered during her 63 minutes on the pitch before she was replaced by Lauren James, who set up Daly's second goal, the eventual match-winner.

Her combinations with the impressive Lauren Hemp and fellow England rookie Jess Park produced some of the best moments in the first half, with all three interchanging as the hosts took charge of the contest. And Robinson said although they hadn't played together previously, she enjoyed the freedom allowed by playing on the opposite flank to Hemp.

She added: "We always want to have fluidity and not be too set in our positions. And when Lauren takes corners or whatever, we swap sides. There were definitely nerves before the game, but it was such an honour to play today, I really enjoyed it."
