Katie McGlynn confirms Hollyoaks exit nine months after joining as co-star shares gushing tribute

Kate McGlynn has confirmed she has left Hollyoaks less than a year after joining.

The actress, from Rochdale, joined the Channel 4 soap in July last year as Becky Quentin.

It was Katie's first big TV role after leaving Coronation Street 18 months earlier.

The 28-year-old's final scenes as Becky aired on Tuesday night during E4's first look episode.

And the character certainly packed a punch with her being involved in big stories that were sparked by her beliefs in conspiracy theories including those surrounding 5G and the coronavirus pandemic.

Confirming her exit, Katie took to Instagram to share a lengthy message with Hollyoaks fans and her thousands of followers.

"Becky Quentin, over and out! @HollyoaksOfficial," she began alongside a picture of her in character as Becky.

"It’s been an absolute pleasure playing Becky and getting my teeth into something so different and gritty!

"As an actor, to be able to portray someone that has so much likeness to extremely current global issues from conspiracy theories to anti-vaxxers, coronavirus and sinophobia…

"I really hope the storyline has helped raise some important issues and helps people see how easy it is for someone to be sucked into this whole world of fake news and conspiracy!"

She added: "Thank you to the entire cast and crew for being so unbelievably amazing and welcoming me with open arms!

"I will miss you all, but other exciting opportunities beckon… "

She also encouraged those affected by the subjects covered throughout Becky’s time in Hollyoaks to visit Channel 4's support website.

And her co-stars were soon sending their messages.

Kelly Condron, who stars in Hollyoaks as Zara Morgan, said: "Mate! Gutted we won’t be battling anymore! What a joy it was to work with you. Can’t wait to see your next big thing."

Gabriel Clark, who was Becky's love interest Ollie Morgan, said: "Katie. You bloody legend. Miss seeing your brilliant, beautiful face and laughing with you every day. You absolutely smashed it. Love youuuu."

Kieron Richardson, best known for playing Ste Hay in the Channel 4 soap, added: "We will miss you."

Gabriel also shared his own post on his Instagram page as he and Katie became great pals off-screen.

Sharing behind-the-scenes set snaps and videos as well as the pair dressed up for a night out, the actor said: "Bye Becky! And thank you Katie! I literally feel so so lucky that I got to meet one of my favourite people I've ever met in this job.

"Every day was not only a joy but a masterclass in acting, I learned so much from working with you Katie and laughed more than I ever have at work! I miss making mischief and laughing every day with you but I am *SO* excited to see what you do next!"

He added: "I hope everyone enjoyed the tumultuous ride that was Becky and Ollie! They were definitely a destructive couple and we had so much fun bringing their chaos to life."
