Kathy Burke reveals she retired from acting as industry made her 'bored'

Kathy Burke revealed that she retired from acting as she became 'bored' with the industry.

The Gimme Gimme Gimme star has been in the showbiz industry for around 40 years and she has now decided to take a step back.

Kathy said: “When I used to work as an actor, you just talked about your own character.

"You didn’t really have input on anybody else. I thought: 'This is so f***ing boring.'"

She added: "I just found that quite ludicrous, which is one of the reasons I wanted to stop being an actor."

Although Kathy has made many appearances as herself on television lately, her last big role was in Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie in 2016.

She has played Magda in the iconic BBC series between 1992 and 2012.

She also had roles in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Crashing and Kevin & Perry Go Large.

Kathy last appeared on the third season of RuPaul's Drag Race as a guest judge.

The iconic actress is now working as a director. She is directing the new ITV murder mystery Holding.

It is based on Graham Norton 's bestseller of the same name.

Graham previously opened up about being thrilled that his 'cosy crime' novel has been adapted into a series.

The presenter, 58, released the best-seller in 2016, with the novel having now been turned into a four-part comedy-drama - which is set to air on ITV later this month.

The author is said to have been delighted when former EastEnders boss Dominic Treadwell-Collins, 44, approached him and asked if he could re-tell the story.

Speaking about it, Graham commented recently: "I was very clear I didn't want to adapt it myself. I'd had my time with those characters, it was time to hand them over."

The chat show host added: "I've loved seeing the direction they've gone in."

And he said that he wrote the novel "so long ago" that he didn't remember the characters' names.

The project is set in West Cork, Ireland, and centres on the discovery of a body in a small community.

The cast is led by Conleth Hill, 57 - best known for his role as Varys in Game of Thrones - who plays local police sergeant PJ Collins in the upcoming adaption of Holding.
