Kathryn Thomas weighs in on Late Late Show rumors as she spills tea on Ryan Tubridy exit

Kathryn Thomas reckons Ryan Tubridy was right to trust his gut and quit the Late Late Show and said: You know when it’s time.

Ryan Tubridy shocked the nation last month revealing he was quitting the Late Late Show.

Ryan hosts his last show on May 26, just two days before he turns 50.

RTE star Kathryn said she’s excited for his new chapter after 14 years at the helm.

The 44-year-old told the Irish Sunday Mirror: “I heard him on the radio the other day. He was saying, he wondered what he’ll do with his weekends now and I was excited for him to go off and travel and do his thing.”

The Operation Transformation presenter insisted Ryan was right to trust his gut. She said: “As he said a time comes and you know it when it arrives.

“I think once you follow your gut instinct, whether it’s work or family or whatever, it’s important to listen to what your gut is telling you.”

Refusing to comment on whether she’d be up for the gig, the telly favourite said it will be hard to replace Ryan.

She added: “What I’m enjoying doing is watching Ryan do what he does so well every week.

“They’ll be very big shoes to fill because he’s such a talented broadcaster, he’s just brilliant.”

Kathryn was on hand to launch the Lidl Farm for the 2023 school season located at Lidl Newbridge regional distribution centre in Co Kildare.

The mum-of-two said: “All the kids go around the farm on this little train in their high vis jackets, it’s so cute.

“It’s a very simple idea of getting kids to understand the food that lands on their plate doesn’t just come from the supermarket. You have kids coming from the country and then kids from inner city Dublin who have never been on a farm before.

“I think it’s so important that kids understand the connection between nature and the land and the food that we eat. It’s so easy to pull food out of a packet and put tomato sauce on it which we all love. There’s nothing wrong with it.”

She joked that everything she tries to grow has died. She added: “I’ve been known to kill everything, whether it’s plants or flowers. But that was really pre-covid.”

Kathryn married restaurateur Padraig McLoughlin in 2019 in Kilkea Castle and the pair have created a vegetable garden.

She added: “We have our vegetable patch going and we grew tomatoes very successfully.

“We grow all our own herbs, rosemary, thyme and I grow basil in the house. Back in the day I couldn’t keep anything alive but now with more time and effort I’m getting better.

“We have our own apple tree now too.”

Parents to five- year- old Ellie and 18- month- old Grace, the couple are navigating the tricky eating stage.

She said: “I’m so aware Ellie is five and Grace is 18 months so right now they eat what’s put in front of them. But I can already see Ellie becoming more picky, saying she doesn’t like this or that.

“This week she doesn’t like cheese, where she’s eaten cheese for five years.

“She’s pushing stuff around the plate, so when we’re in the supermarket we try different things.

“She’s never had aubergine or cauliflower, we’ve always done well with broccoli and carrots.

“So I’m trying to land new stuff in.”
