Katherine Ryan has said Jennifer Lopez’s decision to change her legally change her name to Affleck makes “zero sense at all”.
The 39-year-old comedian was surprised by the move as she said Lopez had spent so long building her reputation as J-Lo.
The remarks came after a marriage license from Clark County Recorder’s Office revealed the singer had signed the document using her husband’s last name.
“Changing your name makes very little sense to me, but makes ZERO SENSE AT ALL when your name is Jennifer Lopez and you are J-Lo, Jenny from the Block, and you rode the 6 day and night to grow that name but ok, Jen Affleck…” Ryan wrote on Twitter.
Ryan’s perspective was met with a mixed response with some arguing she hasn’t changed her name professionally and her brand will always remain JLo.
Other comments branded the message “bad form” for critiquing a woman for choosing to take her husband’s name.
Meanwhile, others joked Affleck should have in fact taken her name instead and become B-Lo.
Mr and Mrs Affleck, also sometimes referred to as Bennifer, have been on cloud nine ever since they revealed they wed at an intimate ceremony in Vegas.
Announcing the joyful news in her newsletter, Ms. Affleck wrote: “We did it. Love is beautiful. Love is kind. And it turns out love is patient. Twenty years patient.”
She signed the announcement off, “With love, Mrs. Jennifer Lynn Affleck.”
The pair revealed last year that they had got together 18 years after they first called off their wedding in 2004.
