Kate Winslet has recalled an experience in which she was "convinced" that she had suffered an accident whilst naked on a stage once, with her saying that it was "awful".
The actor, 47, said it had been whilst she was performing at the Royal Exchange in Manchester years ago. She spoke about it after admitting: "I nearly did a poo on stage once".
Kate shared the story on the Graham Norton Show. She was a guest on the latest episode alongside Sir Lenny Henry, 64, Nadiya Hussain, 37, and Jack Whitehall, 34.
She said on the BBC show: "When I was 18 years old, I was in a production of What The Butler Saw [in Manchester]." Kate explained that she had played the character of Geraldine.
She said her character was asked to have a "full body examination" at one point by a doctor. She said Geraldine was told, in the play, to go behind a curtain and strip.
Kate reminded that in a typical theatre, the audience are located in front of the actors. She explained that going behind a curtain would provide privacy in such a venue.
"This theatre was in the round [though]," she said. It meant that the audience circled the entire stage, with Kate saying she was visible behind the curtain – including from above.
She recalled that she went behind the curtain that time and took her clothes off as planned. Kate said she had to lie on a bed, saying she lay "really uncomfortably and awkwardly".

She continued: "Suddenly ... 'it's happening, it's happening. I'm gonna s**t myself'. I'm lying on a white sheet, naked on a stage." She added: "I'm convinced I've totally s**t myself."
Kate said that moments later her character needed to come out from behind the curtain and retrieve her clothes. She said that another character had "hidden" them.
She recalled wrapping the sheet around herself ahead of the transition. She was subsequently stood "in front of an audience who [could see her] from every f***ing angle."
"I'm absolutely just convinced that if I move my body, there's gonna be poo on the floor. Honestly, I practically slither off the stage and I hide in a corner," she further commented.
Kate – who starred in Titanic in 1997, just a few years later – said she wanted to "check the sheet" immediately. Chef Nadiya interjected to ask: "'Did you sh*t yourself or not?'"
The actor assured that she hadn't. She said: "I had not actually done a poo but the second I got into my dressing room and I ran into that bathroom, [it was like] gunfire".
The Graham Norton Show continues next Friday (December 16) on BBC One and BBC iPlayer from 10.40pm. You can catch up on previous episodes through iPlayer now.
