Princess Kate and Prince William's love story has been well documented, from their university meeting through to their enduring marriage with three kids.
The love birds met at the prestigious St Andrew's University in Edinburgh in their late teens - first starting out as friendly flatmates before striking up a romance. The rest is history.
But what less is known about are Kate's romances before she became part of the Royal Family.
As a stunning and intelligent young woman, she had plenty of suitors wanting to take her out - one of which she was reportedly 'hung up' on when they split.
Here, we take a look at Her Royal Highness' love life before William put the 12-carat sapphire engagement ring on her finger.
Willem Marx
Before packing up her bags and moving to Scotland to study at St Andrew's, Kate had a college boyfriend.
Although Kate and Wills met young, it was Willem Marx who is described as her "first love".
She dated Willem during her time at Marlborough College in Wiltshire.
Willem still lives in London and works as a special correspondent for the PBS NewsHour. He previously worked as a journalist for news organisations CNBC and Bloomberg.
The dad-of-one is married to Italian TV presenter Johanna Botta.
Harry Blakelock
Harry Blakelock is known as 'the one that got away'.
It appears that before William was on the scene, Kate was 'hung up' over her 'hot and cold' romance with the now insurance broker who is said to have 'broken her heart'.
They also met at Marlborough College, where Kate reportedly fell hard.
However their relationship didn't last long, despite both studying abroad in Florence, Italy, at the same time.
A friend told the newspaper: "When Kate arrived in Florence, she was really hung up about Harry.
"She spoke about him all the time and he seemed to have messed her around quite a bit.
"He seemed to have blown hot and cold with her when they were at school and she was always talking about how she could get him back."
Harry later married a school friend of Kate's and is now a partner at Lockton - the world's largest independent insurance broker.
Rupert Finch
While it is well known that Kate met Wills at St Andrew's, there was another university boyfriend before him.
While she and William were just friends to begin with, Kate ended up seeing Rupert Finch.
He was a little older, in his final year of studying law, when they dated for just under a year in 2001.
Speaking about their relationship, a source said: "Kate actually had another boyfriend when she first got to St Andrews, Rupert Finch, who by all accounts was a nice man.
"Prince William, he kind of expressed a bit of interest but I think Kate was still playing hard to get. He wasn't terribly sure if she was interested."
Rupert, now a solicitor, and Kate ended on good terms and he was even invited to their wedding in 2011. While the royal couple also saw him say his vows to Lady Natasha Rufus Isaacs at their wedding in 2013.
Henry Ropner
Like most ordinary couples, Kate and William have had their rocky patches.
They went through two break-ups, one early on in their relationship and a further shock split in 2007.
The latter was a huge surprise as after six years of dating, royalists were longing for a royal engagement.
Although their time apart was short-lived, single Kate made the most of her time on the London dating scene.
She was reportedly seeing Henry Ropner - another tall and handsome wealthy man whose family own a £33.7million shipping management firm.
Henry has since married Natasha Sinclair and the couple live in Somerset.
Prince William 'crush' rumours
Their love story started long before Prince William popped the question in 2010.
They met for the first time at university in 2001, where William attended following his gap year after Eton.
They enrolled on the same course and ended up being a part of the same social circle.
As well as being in the same classes, they even moved into the same halls of residence - St Salvator's Hall, or Sally's to its student renters - and lived just a few doors down.
By the time it came to their second year, William and Kate then moved in together with two friends in a private home, which is where their romance blossomed.
During their engagement interview, William said: "When I first met Kate I knew there was something very special about her."
Talking about their relationship from the beginning he said: "We just spent more time with each other, had a good giggle, had lots of fun and realised we shared the same interests and just had a really good time.
"She's got a really naughty sense of humour."
Also following the happy news of their engagement, Kate shut down reports that she had photos of William on her walls back home and had been crushing on him as a teenager.
"There's a story that goes around that you had a picture of him on your wall," journalist Tom Bradby told Kate in the couple's official engagement interview.
"There wasn't just one, there was about 20," smiling William quipped.
Laughing, Kate responded: "He wishes! No. No, I had the Levis guy on my wall, not a picture of William. Sorry!"
"Well, it was me in Levis, obviously!" William retorted.
They married on April 29, 2011, and now have three children - George, Charlotte and Louis.
