Kate Middleton is target of VERY crude sexual joke in Amazon Prime's Citadel

Kate Middleton was the target of a crude joke in Amazon Prime Video's flagship new American spy action thriller series, Citadel.

The rude jibe comes after the Princess of Wales was allegedly controversially referred to in Disney's live-action remake of The Little Mermaid, it has been claimed.

Citadel follows agents Mason Kane and Nadia Sinh, played by Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas.

Mason and Nadia were presumed dead after a mission in Italy and Mason, now living as Kyle Conroy with his family, has had his memory wiped out.

During the third episode of the series' first season, which aired on May 5 on the streaming platform, Mason asks another character, Balduino Basto (Sen Monro) for help in order to get into the Chief of Armed Forces office.

To which Nadia reacts by telling herself: "The Chief of Armed Forces? You might as well have asked me how to get between the legs of the Duchess of Cambridge."

Citdael is one of the most expensive TV shows ever made, with a high production budget of $300 million (£241 million).

The Citadel jibe involving the Princess of Wales comes after another controversy reportedly stemming from a scene in Disney's live-action remake of The Little Mermaid, which is to be released on May 26.

A scene in the movie involving the prince attempting to guess the mermaid's name has raised eyebrows after a critic told Page Six about its contents having seen a preview.

The critic claims that the scene shows Ariel and Prince Eric meeting after she's given up her voice to get to the surface.

He has to try to guess her name and the prince's first guess is Diana, a possible reference to the late Princess Diana, the mother of princes William and Harry.

However, it is the prince's second guess that has caused a stir. The prince's second guess is reportedly "Catherine", potentially alluding to Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge and the wife of Prince William.

It was claimed that, when the name Catherine is mentioned, the mermaid, portrayed by Halle Bailey, gives a distinctly disgusted look and the Prince replies "OK, definitely not Catherine."

The unnamed critic told Page Six: "Disney would be disingenuous to imply those name choices were coincidental."

The first season of Citadel, consisting of six episodes, premiered on April 28, 2023, while the series has now been renewed for a second season.

The spy series has received mixed reviews from critics. It has a 54% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 41 reviews, while the audience has given it an 87% rating.

Some critics found the plot lacking originality, while others praised it as a thrilling experience.

Amazon's other costly series, "Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power," reportedly had a low completion rate.

As Amazon looks to control expenses, the company recently laid off around 100 people from its Studios and Prime Video divisions.
