The Princess of Wales had a touching moment with a newborn baby in her first major solo engagement since receiving her new royal title.
Kate visited the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford to meet new mums and babies in the hospital’s maternity unit. The tour was part of a series of visits undertaken by Kate and her husband Prince William this week to show their key interests in their new royal roles.
Kate is set to continue making early years care a key focus in her Princess of Wales role, having recently become patron of the Maternal Mental Health Alliance. Kate gave birth to all three of her children - Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis - at the private Lindo Wing at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London.

The princess wore a yellow Karen Millen dress paired with Emily Mortimer earrings for the hospital visit. She also stopped by the special care baby unit, which provides special care for premature babies, where she met a family who had just welcomed a new daughter.
Kate spoke to Szilvia Novak, 43, whose daughter Bianca was born on Tuesday six weeks early. Szilvia asked the princess whether she would like to hold Bianca, to which Kate replied: “Am I allowed to?”
A staff member then helped Szilvia pass Bianca into Kate’s arms. “She’s very sweet,” the princess remarked as she cradled the tiny tot.
After the visit, Ms Novak said of Kate: “She was lovely to speak to. I was really impressed. You don’t feel like you have classes between you. It’s really nice.”
