Kate Middleton forced to alter Top Gun premiere dress to make it royal-appropriate

The Duchess of Cambridge's fashion is always spot on and she very rarely misses the mark with her looks, and the Top Gun: Maverick premiere was no exception.

But to keep things royal-appropriate, Kate often has her clothes tailored to remove sexy slits and revealing necklines.

This was the case with the stunning Roland Mouret off-the-shoulder floor length dress, which had a £2,700 price tag, that she for wore as she joined Top Cruise on the Red Carpet on Thursday.

While fans absolutely lovely her glamorous look, the French designer's original dress, which is from a past season and is currently only available to rent, featured revealing sheer mesh panels at the back, alongside a zip. However these were missing from Kate’s gown.

It appears the Duchess made the subtle changes to give her outfit a classier and smarter twist for the red carpet.

The rest of the dress was the same as the original though - all black with a white bandeau neckline, revealing Kate’s bare shoulders. The gown is described as sitting 'elegantly off-the-shoulder to flatter your décolletage' on the Front Row website, where it is available to rent.

The description continues: "Cut from sculpting stretch-crepe, this elegant design is darted at the waist and hips to create a beautiful hourglass silhouette. We love the unexpected sheer mesh panel at the back."

But of course, the Duchess opted to remove that detail.

Kate paired the monochrome gown with an Alexander McQueen Black Velvet Crystal Embellished Box Clutch, costing £2,318.

As for shoes, she donned her Prada Black Suede Wave Cutout Pumps, which she has worn on multiple occasions in the past.

The look was completed with a brand-new pair of earrings, which were the Tsar Star Stud and Drop Earrings from Robinson Pelhamm costing £10,560.

Opting to keep her makeup minimal and accentuate her gorgeous natural features, Kate wore a little black eyeliner, black mascara, blush and a red lip. Her hair was straightened for the occasion.

Back in December 2019, Kate transformed an Alessandra Rich dress before wearing it for the 'A Berry Royal Christmas' programme.

She had the waist-high slit and revealing keyhole opening at the neckline removed, before adding a wide bow to the neck of the dress.

Other transformations are a little less obvious, with modest alterations to garments including changes to the shape and style of the sleeves.
