Kate Lawler and husband Martin had counselling and were in 'worst place' before wedding

Kate Lawler opened up about the pressures of parenthood and how it created a strain on her relationship with her husband Martin 'Boj' Bojtos.

They welcomed their first child, Noa, in February 2021, and the couple opted for couple's counselling after the birth of the their daughter.

"I wasn't prepared for how much having a baby would put a strain on our relationship," she explained.

The radio presenter tied the knot with her partner of nine years this June, but they underwent couples' therapy months before their wedding.

Speaking on the Dirty Mother Pukka podcast, Kate said: "I broke down in tears because I thought it was the start of the end of our relationship.

"But he said, 'It's because we are six months away from getting married and I want to start our marriage on the right foot. We are in such a bad place right now'."

They were in the 'worst place' before they got married but learned to work on their communication issues.

Although Kate said having Noa was the 'most incredible experience' of her life, she has experienced 'extreme highs and extreme lows' in motherhood.

She previously opened up about her experiences with parenthood.

The reality star candidly spoke about her experience with post-natal depression earlier this year, a month before her wedding.

Alongside a lengthy caption, Kate shared both recent and throwback pictures with 15-month-old Noa.

The first showed Kate holding her tiny baby daughter last year, while the second was taken with Noa in the garden.

In the caption, she penned: "Same day, same month, one year apart. The difference in both of us is remarkable. In the photo on the left, I was desperately trying to be happy and get on with my life as a new Mum but inside I was at my lowest point ever.

"I was going through post-natal depression, had recently been diagnosed with generalised anxiety disorder and felt like I was failing on so many levels as Mum to Noa and partner to Boj.

"It was during this weekend away (Boj surprised me with a weekend staycation at a lovely Airbnb in Henley-On-Thames with friends for my 41st birthday) that I decided to stop breastfeeding as it was becoming too stressful with Noa not wanting to feed from me and my milk supply dwindling.

"It was a decision I can now look back and say was the best thing for my mental health and for Noa, despite cutting so deep at the time because of how much I wanted it to work."

Kate and Boj are now in a much better place.
