Kate Hudson has surprisingly admitted that she and Matthew McConaughey do not wear deodorant.
Hudson, 45, made the surprsing confession about the pair’s unusual hygeine habits on Wednesday's episode of Watch What Happens Live.
When host Andy Cohen asked if it was true that she forced McConaughey to use deodorant during the filming of their 2008 movie Fool's Gold, Hudson responded, "We're au naturel, you know?
"He doesn't wear deodorant. And by the way, I don't either."Hudson also mentioned McConaughey's "strong" natural scent, stating she could "smell him from a mile [away]."
In a 2008 Playboy interview, McConaughey talked about his aversion to deodorant and how Hudson would hint at his body odour.
"She always brings a salt rock, which is some natural deodorant, and says, 'Would you please put this on?'" he said. "I just never wore it. No cologne, no deodorant."
The True Detective star, who recently revealed he was open to quitting acting to run for office, added, "The women in my life, including my mother, have all said, 'Hey, your natural smell smells, one, like a man and, two, smells like you.'"
Despite not using deodorant, McConaughey insisted he takes personal hygiene seriously, taking multiple showers a day and brushing his teeth up to five times daily, but just "doesn't like to smell like someone or something else."
The star first revealed his stance on deodorant in his 2005 Sexiest Man Alive profile with People, saying he hadn't used it "in 20 years."
While Hudson suggested he needed to address his scent, his Tropic Thunder co-star Yvette Nicole Brown had a different perspective in 2021.
She said "I remember that Matthew McConaughey said that he did not use deodorant and that he didn't have an odour.
"So my first thought was, 'I'm going to get as close as I can to him to see if he's right.'"
She found that "He smells like granola and good living. He has a sweet, sweet scent. That is just him, and it's not musty or crazy."
Last year, Hudson and McConaughey reunited virtually to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their romantic comedy How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.
During their video chat posted on Instagram, they reflected on the film and discussed their on-screen chemistry.
“When you're kissing anyone in a movie, it's professional,” explained Hudson. “We're actually trying to create something that evokes something in a certain way that might not exactly be the way you would necessarily do it in real life,”
'But, in respect to our now partners, we do kiss nicely,” she continued. “It was always a very nice kiss.”
