Kate Hudson has worked with A-list celebrities for decades, but one person left her starstruck while filming season two of Running Point.
The singer, 47, says the most “famous person to come on our set” of Mindy Kaling’s comedy series was Jake from State Farm in his first-ever scripted TV series appearance.
“He’s such a nice guy,” Hudson said Wednesday at the TIME100 Summit in New York City, hours before Running Point’s second season’s premiere on Netflix.
She went on to describe Kevin Miles, who has played the insurance company’s iconic ad character since 2020, as “kind” and “down for anything.”
Miles, 35, appearing in-character in Running Point marks the first time that the brand character Jake from State Farm has been involved in entertainment programming outside of commercial breaks.
The basketball comedy is set around the fictional Los Angeles Waves team, which is run by Hudson’s character Isla Gordon after her brother, played by Justin Theroux, steps down. Season two of the show sees Jake help out Hudson’s character by preventing her basketball players from making stupid decisions, according to Bustle.
“I was more starstruck to meet Jake from State Farm than anybody,” Hudson told the outlet in a story published earlier this month. “We thought it was so great and seamless, especially for our show.”
She added, “And who doesn’t love State Farm? Even my daughter knows the jingle.”
In addition to Hudson, Miles and Theroux, season two of the series sees the return of stars Brenda Song, Drew Tarver, Chet Hanks and Uche Agada.
Newcomers to the series include actors Ken Marino, Tommy Dewey, Richa Moorjani, Jake Picking, Blake Anderson, Duby Maduegbunam and Aliyah Turner.
Hudson sang her co-stars’ praises during her chat with TIME Deputy Editor Kelly Conniff during Wednesday’s summit, and teased that season two of the show is “wild” and has “great guest stars.”

So far, those confirmed to appear on the show’s new season include Ray Romano, Octavia Spencer, Lisa Rinna, Nicole Richie and Scott Speedman.
She described Romano, 68, as a “bro,” saying about his time on set: “He does not do the same thing twice. Every time it’s hilarious, he’s so wonderful.”
The first season of the show was written and executive-produced by Kaling, Ike Barinholtz and David Stassen, who was also the showrunner. Los Angeles Lakers president and owner Jeanie Buss, whom the show was partly inspired by, also executive produced the show alongside Hudson and Lakers’ special projects manager Linda Rambis.
Season two of Running Point releases April 23 on Netflix.
