Kate Garraway shares heartbreaking update after Derek’s health took 'frightening turn for the worse'

Good Morning Britain's Kate Garraway has shared an update on her husband Derek Draper's health following a scare which meant she was forced to take time off work.

Posting on her instagram page on Sunday, July 31, she told her 1.1 million followers that her husband's health had taken an "unexpected and frightening turn for the worse". She said she had been left with no choice but to put her work commitments on hold, the Mirror reports.

Sharing an update with fans, she wrote: "Thank you so so much for all your messages of support - they really do mean the world to me & the whole family.

"I have taken some time off @gmb, @smoothradio & @garrawaysgoodatuff in the last 3 weeks as Derek’s health took an unexpected & frightening turn for the worse that landed him back in intensive care & fighting for his life - again ."

"Thanks to the amazing NHS teams & his own extraordinary life force & spirit Derek -please god - is back on the right side of it now and I'm so looking forward to seeing you all back on @gmb from 6am tomorrow & @smoothradio - hopefully celebrating @lionesses #worldcup win!

"Love & see you in the morning!"

Kate says her dear husband is now finally "back on the right side of it" and so she is returning to work on GMB and Smooth Radio from tomorrow (Monday) after three weeks off.

The presenter's husband, who has been suffering long-term effects after contracting Covid in 2020, had been readmitted to hospital.

Kate took some time away from the ITV daytime show for three weeks to stay by Derek's side as she cared for him and their family.

Former political advisor Derek is the worst affected living Covid patient in the UK after spending 13 months in hospital. He first contracted the virus at the beginning of 2020. He returned home but has experienced ongoing health problems.

After Kate posted the update, fans, friends and supporters were quick to send her messages of support.
