Kate Garraway's husband Derek Draper back in hospital after battle with Covid

Kate Garraway has given an update on her husband Derek Draper, as he is back in hospital after his battle with Covid-19.

The Good Morning Britain presenter appeared at the TRIC Awards today and gave an update on her other half, who has severe long-term effects and health problems since he contracted Covid back in March 2020.

Kate said he had returned to hospital but didn't explain why.

She told The Sun: "He's OK, he's back in hospital actually, so that's a development. There we are."

Derek spent more than a year in hospital battling Covid-19 and, later, complications from the deadly virus.

Former Labour political aide Derek contracted coronavirus in March 2020 and was hospitalised and put into an induced coma.

He suffered with a number of health complications despite beating the virus, which left him with clots in his lungs, holes in his heart and made him diabetic.

After more than a year in hospital, Derek returned home in April 2021 to be with his wife Kate and their children Darcey, 16, and Billy, 12.

Derek's health journey and how it impacted his family was explored in two documentaries; Finding Derek and Caring for Derek.

The formal political advisor still required constant care at home. Kate has been there to support her husband throughout the difficult time and has continued to share updates on him.

Earlier this week Kate revealed her husband had lost his medical supplies in the back of a cab.

She tweeted an urgent appeal to try and get his medication back as she wrote: "@BC_Lostproperty help!! Have just brought derek home in a mobility black cab from hospital for a weekend visit -& have left a case with all his meds and kit in the front! The driver recognised me but may not know it’s there - please look & get in touch - need urgently!!"

Kate later revealed the case had been returned and praised the driver for his help.

She said: "It’s been returned! Thanks to all who reached out - the message got to driver lovely Robert who has returned it - phew and thanks to all. #happysundayeveryone".
