Kate Garraway has given a health update on husband Derek Draper and revealed a touching gesture made by King Charles III.
Mr Draper, 55, is thought to be the UK’s worst-affected Covid survivor after contracting it in 2020, and has since experienced ongoing health issues.
Good Morning Britain presenter Garraway, 56, put her career on hold temporarily to care for him and their plight was featured in the documentaries Finding Derek and Caring For Derek.
Last month she revealed that he was back in hospital again having suffered a health setback.
Appearing on ITV’s Lorraine on Friday, she told host Lorraine Kelly that he is “doing well”.
She was also asked about a letter that King Charless III wrote to her while Draper was in hospital the first time around.
“I think it came about because of the Prince’s Trust,” she explained.
“It was when Derek got sick and was very ill in a coma. Of course, he and the Queen had both had covid.“He wrote the most amazing personal letter, just wonderfully uplifting for me.”
Although she was not allowed to divulge the exact content of the note, the mum-of-two confessed what he had said was beautiful.
She continued: “I know other people that have had letters from him for various different reasons.
“I think what he does, I think this is what he’ll be thinking about tonight and tomorrow, he gets why it’s special for people to have that letter.”
She added: “He gets why his role makes it special.”
