Kate Garraway has revealed she has a “rabid eye infection” after sparking concern amongst Good Morning Britain viewers over her appearance.
The ITV presenter, 57, doesn’t usually wear glasses on screen, but did so during Friday’s episode, leading some some fans online to question: “Is Kate ok? Her eyes don't look right?”
Addressing the issue to co-host Adil Ray, the mum-of-two explained: "We know not everybody is a footy fan... by the way, if I'm looking a bit emotional this morning, it's partly the football, it's also that I've got a rabid eye infection.”
Ray then quipped: "I thought you were getting emotional about the game? " Garraway responded: "There's an element of that too! When I look through these spectacles I see a win!"
She added: "They're rose-tinted and I see a win and I'm manifesting it! I think we should all just embrace something to be joyous about."
The TV presenter referenced the infection again later on during the show, joking she had borrowed co-star Susanna Reid’s eyewear, saying: “I have very sore eyes, I'm borrowing Susanna's glasses.”
Garraway’s health issue comes after she recently admitted that she is "barely holding it together" as she navigates her grief following the death of husband Derek Draper earlier this year.
The former Labour spindoctor died on January 3 aged 56 after suffering a heart attack just before Christmas almost four years after he first fell seriously ill with Covid.
He was plagued with health woes after contracting the virus in March 2020, and was receiving 24 hour care.
Speaking to Closer magazine, Garraway confessed: "I'm just at that early stage at the moment of coming out of grief.
"I'm just barely holding it together. I haven't actually been out that much so it's nice to come out tonight, although it is a school night. I'm on telly tomorrow so I won't be able to stay out late."
