Good Morning Britain’s Kate Garraway has revealed her husband Derek Draper has been in “hospital for a couple of months” as she shared an update on his health.
Mr Derek is thought to be one of the UK’s worst affected patients from Covid after being admitted to hospital in March 2020.
The 54-year-old is still in recovery and requires around-the-clock care and daily medication after returning home in April 2021.
Ahead of her appearance at the TRIC Awards last week, the 55-year-old revealed Mr Draper had returned to hospital – but she has now said he’s been "in and out" for a couple of months.
The broadcaster discussed how she has been taking things "day by day" but has been left "really tired" taking Mr Draper back and forth to hospital prior to his most recent stay.
She told The Sun: "He’s been in hospital a couple of months now. He’s been coming in and out. Hopefully he’ll come out again. Hopefully tonight. I’m crossing my fingers.
"I’m really tired but I take it day by day to level out the ups and downs.”
She added: "I try to embrace life, especially the kids [16-year-old Darcey and 12-year-old Billy] as we’ve had two and a half years of it. Their lives have changed, and they need to do things."
Her comments come days after she thanked fans for helping her find her husband’s lost medical supplies.
The ITV presenter revealed a medicine kit was accidentally left in a taxi on Friday and appealed for help to track it down.
She shared on social media: “Have just brought Derek home in a mobility black cab from hospital for a weekend visit.
“I have left a case with all his meds and kit in the front. The driver recognised me but may not know it’s there - please look and get in touch - need urgently!!”
Thanks to a fan, Derek’s vital medicines were returned to the couple after a follower who knew the cab driver contacted the TV presenter following her public plea.
The fan wrote: “I know the driver Kate as he mentioned he’d taken you and your husband to me this evening. I’m trying to get in touch right now.”
Sharing an update with fans, Garraway said: “It’s been returned! Thanks to all who reached out - the message got to driver lovely Robert who has returned it - phew and thanks to all.”
