Kate Garraway hits back at ITV Caring for Derek documentary backlash

Kate Garraway has responded to claims that she 'paraded' husband Derek Draper after he was the subject of two heartbreaking ITV documentaries.

The second of the documentaries - Caring for Derek - aired last night at 9pm and now ITV Good Morning Britain star Kate has hit back at a critic on social media.

The critic had said: "I genuinely hope he makes as full a recovery as possible. Sadly I still can’t reconcile how Derek’s alleged inability to communicate ties in with him consenting to Kate parading him in front of the public. That’s never sat comfortably with me."

Kate replied: "If you watch the doc tonight you will see xx."

The critic responded: "I don’t doubt that, but there are millions of carers who don’t enjoy the benefit of celebrity status and the attached support. Apart from a return to health for Derek, if this story results in better care provision for others then it’s a job well done."

Another social media user supported Kate, writing: "They have a documentary about her life I saw her with Piers Morgan - it was very touching and she is a great inspiration to us all as to whatever life throws at us always be the strongest God bless her and her husband and family."

"Watched last night, very emotional from the start, you have to have faith that your lovely Derick will come back, and if it only took the love of his family alone then he would be 100 per cent in no time," another added.

One Twitter user wrote: "Watching now. We love you Kate. Keep strong. So many people are wishing Derek well & we can understand the enormous strain & change in your lives. Thank you for educating us about Covid. You make people feel that they are not alone. This is a kind and brave thing to do."
