Kate Garraway has revealed she had to miss a Christmas event after dashing to hospital with "another crisis".
Appearing on ITV's Good Morning Britain today, Kate confirmed she was meant to attend this year's Christmas Carol event hosted by Catherine, the Princess of Wales, but was forced to pull out after a dash to hospital.
She was meant to attend the concert with her father, which he was really looking forward to, but had to pull out as she "unfortunately ended up in the hospital with another crisis". Kate did not confirm who was in hospital but she admitted she was devastated to miss the concert as she had really enjoyed going last year and her dad was excited for it too.
Kate has had a tough year as she continues to care for her husband Derek Draper, who has been in and out of hospital amid his health battle. Derek contracted Covid early on in the pandemic, but it caused huge damage to his organs. She had previously admitted to Lorraine Kelly on her ITV show that it was a "long battle" to get her husband home as she adjusts to her new role of a carer.
It comes after Kate shared some snaps of her and her family preparing for Christmas. She is pulling out all the stops as her husband Derek Draper continues to recover from Covid-19. The former spin doctor, 55, was released from hospital earlier this month after contracting sepsis and will thankfully be spending the festive season with his family.
In one of the snaps, her kids Darcey, 16 and Billy, 13 are seen standing next to a beautifully decorated Christmas tree. In another, Kate's rarely seen parents smile for the camera as they help their daughter take the huge tree out of her car.
"So they say it takes a village to raise a child, but how many does it take to raise a Christmas tree?" she wrote alongside the photos.
"Well in my case (altogether now sing along), 5 exasperated shop workers, 4 helpful neighbours, 3 frazzled parents, 2 excited kids & NOT a partridge in a pear tree but my Peugeot. Even my own mother didn’t believe I could get a 6-foot tree in but I knew my Percy Peugeot wouldn’t let me down! So worth it to see the kids so happy, ready for Christmas."
Kate has been open about her struggles balancing her work life with caring for her husband Derek.
"I know with my own experience with Derek," she shared on Good Morning Britain recently as the team broadcasted live from a hospital, "Finally got into the Long Covid clinic after a year-and-a-half to an amazing group of people that are working on the impact of Covid damage, and they said 'we're going to get you into this person, that person, we're going to take action'.
"The appointments have now come through for (20)23 and (20)24, so you're talking about four years from the impact."
The star has reportedly hired a chef to take care of Christmas dinner while she spends time with her loved ones. Ahead of the big day, a source said: "Kate's not holding back this year - she's already found a chef who can cook a full Christmas meal for them."
