Kate Ferdinand shared a cryptic 'crying and drowning' post on social media yesterday (March 19) - Mother's Day - not long after recalling the heartbreak she felt when husband Rio and his children once failed to get her a Mother's Day card. Taking to her Instagram Story, she uploaded a post that simply read: "Cry, let that water go. You were drowning."
Kate and Rio married back in August of 2020, a few years after his first wife, Rebecca Ellison, sadly died of breast cancer in 2015. Rio and Rebecca had three children together, the Mirror reports.
Following Rebecca's passing, Kate soon became a step mum to now 11-year-old Tia, 16-year-old Lorenz and 14-year-old Tate. However, when it came to Kate's first Mother's Day after taking up the new parental role, she revealed on a recent episode of her Blended podcast that she was left "sobbing" after her new family failed to offer a token of appreciation.

Reflecting on the moment, the former The Only Way Is Essex star, told listeners: "I wasn’t a biological mum. I think it was our first Mother’s Day. Maybe I’d been living here about six months, something like that.
"Although I wasn’t a biological mum I kind of felt like I’d taken on the mum role. For me, going from living at home on my own to taking the kids to school, cooking them dinner, I felt like a mum."
Speaking to Rio, who joined her on the podcast: "I really thought I might get a card from you, and I didn’t get a card from you. I felt bad to express that in front of you because you guys had lost your mum, and the kids have lost their mum. So I just went in my room and I just sobbed my heart out. Seriously.
"And then I felt selfish for wanting a card - how dare I want a card? So anyone that’s kind of new in this situation might feel like that because it’s a weird one. I wasn’t a biological parent so how could I expect that? But I felt like a mum."
Now, the step-mum is pregnant with her second child with the Manchester United footballer. The couple welcomed their first child into he world, two-year-old Cree, in 2021.
It would seem that despite Kate, Rio and his children's initial setback in the early years of Kate becoming step mum, the Ferdinand family have gone on to share an incredible bond. Kate often shares sweet snaps online of her alongside her step-children in loved-up displays.
