Kate and William's parenting habit that the Queen 'struggles to get her head around'

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are known for having a very hands-on approach with their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

But there's one thing that Kate and William do that the Queen reportedly 'cannot stand.'

According to the Express, the Queen's great-grandchildren love to spend time with their mum and dad in the kitchen at their Anmer Hall holiday home in Norfolk.

It's understood that the Cambridges use the kitchen as their 'main base', which is something that Her Majesty was reportedly stunned to discover.

"For the Queen, she can't stand that, because she is used to having a set room for that sort of thing," the source explained.

This is a foreign concept to the Queen, who thinks that a kitchen is a place for staff only.

"The kitchen she never goes down to when she’s at Balmoral, for instance," the source explained. "In her mind, that is where all the kitchen staff work."

The Duke and Duchess' slightly more casual parenting style highlights an intergenerational shift in the royal family.

Kate and William try to give their children the most normal upbringing possible - often seen dropping the young royals to school and playing with them on weekends.

Unlike other members of the royal family, who have a lot of staff, Kate and William only have a housekeeper and a nanny, to cultivate a more relaxed atmosphere.

Kate opened up about her experience being a mother on Giovanna Fletcher's podcast Happy Mum, Happy Baby.

When asked if she feels 'mum guilt', Kate admitted: "Yes absolutely - and anyone who doesn't as a mother is actually lying.

"Yep - all the time, even this morning, coming to the nursery visit here - George and Charlotte were like 'Mummy how could you possibly not be dropping us off as school this morning?'

"It's a constant challenge - you hear it time after time from mums, even mums who aren't necessarily working and aren't pulled in the directions of having to juggle work life and family life."

The way she copes, she says, is by surrounding herself with people who are a positive influence in her children's lives, and that she knows she can turn to on days that she's struggling.
