Kata'ib Hezbollah, a prominent Iraqi paramilitary group, has been gaining attention due to its involvement in conflicts and its objectives in the region. Founded in 2003 by al-Muhandis, who was killed alongside Qasem Soleimani in a U.S. drone attack in January 2020, the group initially aimed to combat U.S. forces present in Iraq between 2003 and 2011.
Kata'ib Hezbollah's primary agenda is to advance and protect Iranian interests, both in Iraq and the broader Middle East region. Notably, the group was actively involved in suppressing the citizen uprising against Bashar al-Assad in Syria and played a part in quelling the 2019 protests in Iraq, resulting in the deaths of numerous Iraqi youth protesters.
