Kasabian, Manic Street Preachers and Blossoms bring their A-game - Neighbourhood Weekender Day Two review

Day two at the Neighbourhood Weekender in Warrington promised another indie music-laden afternoon in the sun. The Bootleg Beatles and Cast get the day underway before indie-rock emerging heroes Inhaler rock the main stage.

The Dublin band don’t disappoint with their rousing set. First single My Honest Face sees the crowd erupt as the first flares fill the afternoon sky. You can certainly expect them to return in a much higher slot next year.

Over on the second stage, Liverpool singer songwriter Jamie Webster was likely hoping to host his own Champions League winning party. The indie-folk artist was over in Paris on Saturday night as his side lost to Real Madrid and it’s somewhat of a surprise he’s made it back in time for the afternoon set.

It’s a good thing he did as probably the biggest Big Top crowd of the weekend are packed into the tent for what is only his ‘second ever live festival show’ as his rise to stardom continues outside of his home city. The self-proclaimed voice of the working classes delivers a near immaculate set despite his understandable hangover.

Closer Weekend In Paradise sees the whole crowd bouncing and his quite apt song about ‘the Tories’ continues long after his set has concluded. Pale Waves keep the crowd moving on the main stage with the Manchester gothic indie-pop quartet producing an electric and thrilling performance for the excited crowd.

They are followed by number one selling artist Tom Grennan and the Bedford vocalist attracts a Sunday evening atmosphere to the main stage. He asks the audience to go wild as he ups the tempo by dropping Chase & Status’ All Goes Wrong with several moshpits duly following.

Blossoms are the penultimate main stage headliner as they pull in another huge crowd with their brand of bouncy keyboard-heavy pop. The sun is starting to set as the very polished Stockport lads fly through hit after hit. Purple, red and blue flares take over the Warrington skyline for massed songs with Your Girlfriend, Honey Sweet and There's A Reason Why (I Never Returned Your Calls). Set finale Charlemagne causes the biggest reaction of the day as the crowd erupts.

With Kasabian and Manic Street Preachers joint headlining, festival goers are forced into a rather unneeded decision between the live music heroes. This causes a split in the audience but as soon as Sergio Pizzorno and Co arrive on the main stage with all the usual swagger, the decision is obvious enough.

Mass hysteria hits as Serge blasts out Club Foot and the tempo doesn't slow throughout the relentless set. ’Tom who’ comes to mind as Serge is unleashed and he completely owns the stage keeping the crowd bouncing throughout.

Underdog, Shoot The Runner and Empire are highlights from a memorable set full of certified bangers from a band who sound better than ever.

An emphatic encore of Bless This Acid House, L.S.F and Fire leaves no one in doubt that this version of Kasabian are here to stay as one of the very best live bands around.
