Congress MP Karti Chidambaram in a letter to Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla has complained against the CBI raids during which confidential documents pertaining to the Parliamentary Standing Committee for Information and Technology, of which he is a member, were seized by the agency.
He called it a breach of his Parliamentary privilege and interference by the agency in discharge of his duty as a law-maker.
Mr. Chidambaram in his letter said that over the course of the past few years, he and his family have become targets of a relentless campaign by the government and its investigating agencies who are trying to “silence” voices of dissent by “foisting one fake case after another”.
“Such targeted intimidation of a member of the House amounts to a breach of privilege,” he wrote.
“In the last round of raids, my handwritten notes pertaining to the depositions made to the committee by witnesses were also seized - for reasons best known to the agency,” he said.
He urged the Speaker Mr. Birla to take cognisance of the issue.
