Karnataka to set up 438 Namma Clinics in major cities, towns

BENGALURU: The state government is all set to open 438 Namma Clinics in all major cities and towns, including Bengaluru, on the lines of the Mohalla Clinics of Delhi.

The state cabinet, which met here on Friday, approved the proposal announced by CM Basavaraj Bommai in his maiden budget, presented on March 4. To begin with, the government has decided to open Namma Clinics, also called Urban Health and Wellness Centers, in all 242 wards of Bengaluru city, keeping an eye on the upcoming Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike elections.

"We are setting up these clinics mainly to control contagious diseases and ease the load on existing hospitals," said law and parliamentary affairs minister J C Madhuswamy, adding that the state is spending Rs 155 crore on setting up these clinics.

BMTC gets green signal to purchase 238 buses

The government will soon recruit doctors, nurses, and other staff for these clinics on a contract basis.

The cabinet gave administrative approval to the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) to purchase 238 BS-VI buses at a cost of Rs 80 crore. The decision came following complaints by many commuters about the poor condition of BMTC buses.

The cabinet also approved additional allocation of Rs 65 crore to Shivamogga greenfield airport to provide night landing and other facilities. "This is over and above the Rs 384 crore provided to the airport,"Madhuswamy said.
