BENGALURU: Karnataka skipper Manish Pandey looked heartbroken after his team’s five-wicket loss to Uttar Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy quarterfinal here on Wednesday. The team’s famed batting line-up fell short and the combined experience of four of their top-order batsmen – Mayank Agarwal, Manish Pandey, Karun Nair and R Samarth — and the over 22,000 first-class runs they have scored counted for little.
“It is disappointing from a batting point of view, as a batsman myself and the batting group. The second innings — this was not among the best batting performances we had of late. But yesterday (Tuesday) was not a day we want to remember. We should have taken our time and seen the overs through. We cannot repeat the same mistake again,” the skipper reasoned.
