Karnataka: Over 10 labourers trapped under maize bags rescued from warehouse in Vijayapura

VIJAYAPURA: More than 10 labourers from Bihar were possibly trapped beneath sacks of maize in a private warehouse in Vijayapura, on Monday night.

Approximately 50 workers were engaged in activities at Rajguru Industries, a food processing unit located in the industrial estate at Aliabad, on the outskirts of Vijayapura. Witnesses revealed that around 10 workers became trapped when four sets of storage units collapsed, each containing 120 tonnes of maize.

The police confirmed that three workers have been successfully rescued and transported to the government hospital. A rescue operation is underway, with the collaboration of personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services. Two cranes and four earth movers have been deployed for the operation, and there are reports of 3-4 workers still under the bags, according to the police.

SP Rishikesh Sonawane and other officials have hurried to the scene to oversee the situation.

Industry Minister MB Patil mentioned that he is en route from Belagavi and expects to reach Vijayapura by midnight. He stated, "We have requested details from the DC and SP, and I have shared the same information with the Chief Minister."
