Karnataka: Murder accused caught after 23 years

KALABURAGI/ BELAGAVI: Kalaburagi police arrested a murder accused after 23 years of the crime at Akkalakot in Maharashtra on Saturday.

The accused was staying in Akkalakot just 30 km from the Nimbarga police station for the last 25 years by changing his name to Kareemsab. He had killed the man 25 years ago on a contract.

Accused Kareemsab had taken Rs 5 lakh supari to kill the then Hadagil gram panchayat president Dattappa Doddamani in 1999. Eleven people involved in the case were arrested under a case registered with Nimbarga police.

Doddamani, who was growing in political influence, was suspected to have been murdered by his rivals on December 22, 1999.
