Karnataka: Man sends audio clip to friend; found dead with lover two days later

MYSURU: Mysuru police found the bodies of a man and a woman on Tuesday and Wednesday inside a forested area in the Talkad police station limits, two days after the man sent an audio clip to a friend.

Why M Siddaraju and Sumitra, both hailing from the same village and married to different partners, died is unclear. Siddaraju was found hanging from a tree.

In the audio clip to his friend, M Siddaraju, on June 18, Siddaraju said that Sumitra had committed suicide and he too would take his life. He also mentioned that he had buried Sumitra.

Siddaraju, a father of two sons, lived with his wife in M Kebbehundi village. Sumitra, a homemaker, was from the same village.

Police said both were allegedly having an affair and had left the village together.

The police found Siddaraju’s body hanging from a tree near the banks of the Cauvery near Talkad Keerthinarayana Maralu Bore, a forested area, on Tuesday. On Wednesday, a few metres away, they found Sumitra’s body buried in the sand on the bank of the River Cauvery.

The police started searching for the two after the friend, Ningaraju of M Kebbehundi village, told the police about the audio clip on June 20 when he did not see Siddaraju in the village for two days. Ningaraju had initially ignored the audio clip.

Forest personnel, too, had alerted the police about the body of a man hanging from a tree. Later, he was identified as Siddaraju.

Sumitra’s family has now filed a murder case with Talkad police.

Additional superintendent of police R Shivakumar said the bodies have been handed over to the families after autopsy and an investigation is on.
