BENGALURU: MP Renukacharya, a BJP legislator and political secretary to the CM, courted controversy on Wednesday after admitting in the legislative assembly his estranged brother had obtained a certificate falsely stating that the lawmaker's daughter belongs to the Scheduled Caste (SC). The MLA's family belongs to the Lingayat community.
When Congress members created a ruckus seeking action against him over the issue, the MLA informed the house: "My brother and I fell out about 25 years ago. He had procured an SC certificate to contest from Gulbarga assembly segment, an SC reserved seat, forcing me to cut off ties with him. He had similarly got one certificate for my daughter without my knowledge. When I learnt about this, I asked her to immediately surrender the certificate."
